Sega 32X - Troubleshooting

Alright, before you do anything else, take a look at this:

There's a diagram of all the components that came packaged with the 32X.  At best you'll have all of these; at worst you'll just have the 32X unit itself.

Using the unit with a Model 1 Genesis

You will need:
See the 32X Manual PDF for complete setup instructions.

Using the unit with a Sega CDX

The manual for the 32X mentions a special spacer for the CDX system.  However, as far as I can tell these were never produced.

See Sega-16's installation page (off site) for complete instructions on attaching the unit to a Sega CDX.

Using the unit with an X'Eye

See this page (off site) for complete instructions on attaching the unit to a JVC X'Eye.

Incompatibilities

The 32X is incompatible with some older TVs.  I've heard mention of Sega-made adapters that fix this problem, but as far as I can tell they never went into production.  All I can suggest is that you try your system on a newer TV.

The 32X is not compatible with the Sega Genesis 3, which lacks some of the necessary interface logic.

Having lockups or similar problems?

The white wires within the system may be loose.  Try Sonic Cult's Repair Guide (off site).

Still No Luck?

If all else fails, you can also try Sega-Parts.com to get it repaired.  It's not cheap though ($45 plus shipping!), so you may be better off trying your luck on a loose unit or two on eBay.
